A 57-year-old Guelph man is facing impaired driving charges after a pickup truck crashed into a light pole, leaving the pole across Stone Road East Wednesday night.
Guelph police were called to Stone Road East and Victoria Road South around 9:30 p.m. following reports of a single-vehicle collision. When officers arrived, they found the damaged light pole blocking the roadway.
A witness told police the pickup had been following their vehicle closely before passing at high speed and striking the pole.
Officers located the damaged truck nearby and arrested the driver after reportedly noticing signs of impairment. Police say testing later found his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
The 57-year-old has been charged with impaired operation, impaired operation with a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
