An ATV rollover in Mapleton Township has resulted in charges against three youths after all three riders were injured and taken to hospital.
The crash happened shortly after 12 p.m. on September 26 on Ruth Anne Place, where Wellington County OPP said the off-road vehicle left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.
Emergency crews treated three occupants at the scene. Two were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, while the third was airlifted to a trauma centre with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The subsequent police investigation led to multiple charges against a 14-year-old Mapleton Township resident, including careless driving causing bodily harm, driving without a licence or plates, and unlawfully operating an off-road vehicle on a highway. The youth also faces charges related to passengers not wearing proper helmets and improper passenger seating.
A second 14-year-old and a 13-year-old, both from Drayton, were each charged with failing to wear a proper helmet.
