A 46-year-old London man is facing multiple charges after police say an impaired driver struck an ambulance and another vehicle before fleeing and later led officers to Victoria Hospital.
The incident began around 9:30 p.m. Sunday near Duchess Avenue and Dane Street. Police say the driver hit a parked ambulance, then crashed into another parked vehicle in a driveway before leaving the area.
Officers subsequently received reports of a silver sedan being driven dangerously near Western Road and Sarnia Road. Police allege the vehicle travelled on sidewalks, went down a flight of stairs, ran red lights and came close to striking pedestrians.
The vehicle was later located entering Victoria Hospital from the Base Line Road East entrance on Commissioners Road East.
Police say two officers were assaulted while taking the suspect into custody.
The London man faces two counts of assaulting a peace officer, along with charges of resisting arrest, impaired operation, flight from police, dangerous operation and failing to stop after an accident.
