A major residential fire in Ottawa’s Barrhaven neighbourhood prompted an extensive firefighting response early Saturday.
Ottawa Fire Services received several emergency calls just before 2:45 a.m. reporting black smoke coming from a house in the 60 block of Moonbeam Street. When firefighters arrived, they found dense smoke pouring from the ground floor and began efforts to bring the flames under control using a hose line.
Approximately an hour later, deteriorating conditions inside the home led officials to order firefighters out of the building.
The emergency response continued until about 4:35 a.m., when the fire was declared under control. Ottawa paramedics also attended, but no injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Update – The fire is now treated as suspicious.
