A 76-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run collision in Ajax over the weekend.
Durham Regional Police responded to the collision near Ringer Road and Harwood Avenue North at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. Police said the man was crossing within a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a white 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck that left the scene.
The pedestrian was initially taken to a local hospital with injuries believed to be minor. His condition later worsened, prompting his transfer to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he died from his injuries.
Police located the suspected vehicle and its driver, a 69-year-old woman, shortly after the collision. Authorities have not released details about potential charges. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
