A 14-year-old scooter rider was airlifted to a Toronto trauma center after being struck by a vehicle near Barrie on Friday night. The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. on County Road 27, south of Dunlop Street West.

The youth suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre before being airlifted. Police noted that the scooter likely lacked lights at the time of the incident, but no charges have been laid.

Provincial police also responded to a nearby bush party around the same time, though Barrie Police stated there is no indication the two events were related. The road was closed briefly following the crash but has since been reopened.
