An 18-year-old is facing multiple charges after a high-speed crash in Thunder Bay caused widespread property damage.
The incident occurred Feb. 16 in a residential neighbourhood near Arthur Street. According to Thunder Bay Police Service, officers saw a pickup truck travelling at more than 100 km/h along a sidewalk on Empire Avenue. The vehicle struck at least eight parked cars, along with several fences, trees, shrubs and a fire hydrant before eventually stopping after hitting a snowbank and a sign.
Police have charged the driver with impaired operation involving alcohol and drugs, dangerous driving, fleeing officers and stunt driving. Additional charges include three counts of failing to stop at a stop sign, not surrendering a licence and permit, underage cannabis possession, having cannabis readily accessible in the vehicle, breaching G1 licence conditions by not having a qualified driver present and failing to update an address.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
