An 18-year-old man died Tuesday night after being struck by a train in Toronto’s east end, according to police.
Emergency crews were called to the Monarch Park area around 10:20 p.m. after a report of a pedestrian being hit in a rail corridor near Greenwood and Danforth avenues.
Police said the man and a woman had been walking eastbound on active railway tracks when two trains approached from opposite directions. The man moved to avoid one of the trains but was struck by the other.
The woman was not injured. Police said the train involved was a GO Transit work train carrying railway employees rather than passengers.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said there is no indication of foul play. The woman could face a trespassing fine for being on the active tracks.
