Sarnia police have charged a 20-year-old woman with impaired driving following a crash early Saturday morning in the 1400 area of Lakeshore Road.

Around 4 a.m., officers responded to a report of a Mini Cooper in a ditch after it had struck several trees. The vehicle was severely damaged and littered with debris. When police arrived, no one was found at the scene.

Shortly after, a man approached officers claiming to be the driver. However, security footage showed two women exiting the vehicle, with no man present. The man later admitted he wasn’t driving and had helped remove the women from the scene. He received a warning for obstructing police.

Through further investigation, police located the women at a home on Assiniboine Crescent. While no one required medical attention, breath tests confirmed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of 150 milligrams per 100 millilitres—nearly double the legal limit.

The driver, identified as Ashlyn Morgan of Murphy Road, faces several charges: impaired operation, operating with a blood alcohol level over 80, and failing to remain at the scene. Her driver’s license was also suspended for 90 days.
