A 24-year-old Brant County woman is facing impaired driving charges after a crash in Cambridge early Friday morning brought down a hydro pole and left live electrical wires exposed across the road.

Waterloo Regional Police say officers were called to the area of Beverley and Kerr streets at approximately 1:25 a.m. after a vehicle reportedly lost control and slammed into a utility pole. The impact caused the pole to collapse, creating a dangerous situation with energized wires on the roadway.

According to investigators, the driver and passenger left the scene before emergency crews arrived. Police later located both individuals nearby after the area had been secured.

No injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

The driver has since been charged with impaired operation and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
