A 29-year-old man from northern Ontario is facing impaired driving charges after police say he left the scene of a crash and later returned while officers were still investigating.
The incident happened Feb. 13 on Hillcrest Road in East Ferris. The Ontario Provincial Police responded around 3:20 p.m. to a report of a vehicle in a ditch. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle but no driver.
Shortly afterward, while police remained at the scene, the vehicle was pulled from the ditch and driven westbound on Hillcrest Road. Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver. Following their investigation, police determined alcohol was a factor. The man was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP detachment for additional testing.
He has been charged with two impaired driving offences, including having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. In addition, his licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on March 17.
