A 29-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after a single-vehicle crash in Atikokan, Ontario, early on May 16. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Highway 11 near Flanders Road. The driver called authorities to report the crash and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon arriving, officers noticed signs of impairment and called in an OPP Drug Recognition Expert, who determined that the driver was unsafe to operate the vehicle due to drug consumption. As a result, the woman was charged with dangerous driving and impaired operation (both alcohol and drugs).

In addition to the charges, her license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The OPP reminded the public that vehicle impoundments are mandatory in most impaired driving cases. They also warned that if someone loans their vehicle to an impaired driver, they could be responsible for impound costs, which can last up to 45 days if the driver is suspended.

The woman was released from custody and will appear in court on June 26.
