A suspected impaired driver who was reported to police by a Chatham business was later arrested after becoming involved in a collision Sunday night.
Chatham-Kent police were first alerted around 9:10 p.m. when Richmond Street business employees reported a driver they believed was impaired. The vehicle had already left the area by the time officers were notified.
Roughly 20 minutes later, police responded to a crash at the Queens Line roundabout. Officers determined the driver involved was the same person previously reported by the business.
Police allege alcohol impairment was a factor. The 33-year-old Belle River man was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where investigators say he refused to provide breath samples. He faces charges of operation while impaired by alcohol and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.
The man was released from custody and is due in court Oct. 6.
