A 35-year-old man has died after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Friday near Winston Churchill Boulevard. A pickup truck struck a crash cushion — the barrier separating the express and collector lanes — before being deflected into the express lanes, where it came to a stop.
The driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to them.
Police initially anticipated reopening the affected express lanes between noon and 1 p.m., but they remained closed for several more hours. The roadway fully reopened at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers confirmed later in the day.
