A 43-year-old woman from Nipissing First Nation is facing impaired driving charges after a crash on Highway 17 early on the morning of September 13.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the incident, which involved a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a moose, around 3:55 a.m. Police said the woman hit the moose after the initial crash.
According to OPP, the CMV had pulled over to the shoulder of the highway when another vehicle struck the dead moose, causing it to roll over. The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency responders.
During the investigation into the rollover, officers suspected impaired driving, and the driver was taken to the OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result, the woman was charged with two impaired driving offenses, including having a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of 80. She also received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and had her vehicle impounded for seven days.
The woman was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on November 6.
