A 50-year-old woman has been taken into custody after a dog attack in Thamesville on Thursday evening.

Chatham-Kent police were called to Victoria Street after a 55-year-old man reported being bitten while walking his dog. Investigators say an unleashed dog rushed at the man’s pet, and he was injured while trying to break up the confrontation. The man did not require medical treatment, but his dog was hurt and needed veterinary care.

Police determined the loose dog belonged to a local woman who was already wanted for breaching a probation order. She was arrested at the scene and taken to police headquarters, where she remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Authorities are reminding residents to keep their dogs properly restrained, stressing that responsible pet ownership is essential to preventing injuries.
