A 52-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a boat while swimming in Lake Nepahwin on Friday morning. Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, responded just before 11 a.m. Witnesses reported that the woman was swimming in open water when she was struck by a passing vessel.

She suffered severe injuries and was given immediate assistance by bystanders before being taken to Health Sciences North, where she remains in intensive care.

Greater Sudbury Police’s traffic and forensic units are leading the investigation, using drone technology and witness interviews to collect evidence. A police presence was maintained near Stewart Drive and Nepahwin Beach for several hours, with the area cleared by 5 p.m.

Authorities are asking the public for any information or video footage that may help the investigation and will provide updates as it continues.

Update – The victim of the boat collision has succumbed to her injuries.
