A 54-year-old man sustained serious, life-altering injuries after an SUV crashed into a bus shelter in Hamilton’s west end on Thursday afternoon.
The collision occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of King Street West and Dundurn Street North. Police say a woman driving a Ford Edge was exiting a Tim Hortons plaza onto King Street West when the SUV lost control and struck the bus shelter, where the man was waiting.
The victim was transported to a trauma centre in critical condition, while the female driver was taken to a local hospital with stable injuries. Authorities have not determined what caused the SUV to lose control.
Hamilton Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident and is asking anyone with witness information, dashcam footage, or nearby surveillance video to contact investigators.
