A 56-year-old man is facing multiple charges after crashing a stolen vehicle into a hydro pole east of Cornwall. The collision occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday along County Road 2 near Simser Road.
According to Ontario Provincial Police, the vehicle veered off the road and struck a hydro pole with enough force to shear it off, leaving live wires hanging just a metre above the road surface. Witnesses reported seeing the driver flee the scene on foot.
While officers initially aimed to check on his condition, they soon discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. The OPP Canine Unit was called in and successfully located the suspect.
The suspect is identified to be Richard Zeran, a resident of Cornwall. He has been charged with vehicle theft, dangerous driving, operating a vehicle while prohibited, and failing to remain at the scene. The man is set to appear in court in Alexandria on December 3.
