A 64-year-old man from Georgina was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by a dump truck in Whitchurch-Stouffville. York Regional Police say the collision occurred around 4:07 a.m. near Bloomington Road and Kennedy Road East, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the man had been driving earlier and had parked his vehicle on the side of the road. For reasons not yet known, he got out of the vehicle and was then hit by the dump truck.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit is examining the circumstances of the incident, and the man’s identity has not been released. Bloomington Road remains closed between Kennedy Road and Warden Avenue while officers work on scene, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
