A 69-year-old woman has died after being struck by a minivan in Markham on Monday morning, according to police.

York Regional Police responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle around 8 a.m. near Markham Road and Elson Street. The woman was rushed to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the minivan remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. In the meantime, Markham Road has been closed from Denison Street to Steeles Avenue E. The closure is expected to remain in effect throughout Monday as the investigation continues.
