Hamilton police are investigating after a seven-year-old child was struck by a city bus downtown Thursday afternoon and later died from their injuries. The collision occurred around 1:12 p.m. near Emerald and Wilson streets.

Fifteen passengers were on the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus at the time. It is unclear whether the child was hit at the front or side of the vehicle. Authorities believe the child may have just exited the bus with their mother. The bus driver remained on scene.

Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath expressed condolences, calling the loss “unimaginable,” and thanked first responders and investigators. Wilson Street, between Tisdale and East Avenue, will remain closed for several hours as the Collision Reconstruction Unit continues its investigation.
