A 70-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in Hamilton earlier this week.
Police say the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North. The woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a Chevrolet Volt that was turning onto Barton from Kenilworth.
She was transported to hospital with critical injuries and later succumbed to them, according to an update from investigators. Her name has not been made public.
The driver stayed at the scene and is assisting police. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Update – On April 30, police confirmed the driver, a 34-year-old Hamilton man, has been charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act. He is expected to appear in court in June 2026.
