A 79-year-old woman is facing impaired driving-related charges after police responded to a report of a suspected intoxicated driver near Thunder Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police say they received a 911 call on June 9 around 9 p.m. from a witness who reported a vehicle nearly struck them and then veered off the road. Officers later located a black SUV in a ditch along Silver Beach Drive.

The driver was arrested at the scene and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle along with multiple impaired driving offences, including driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

Her licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for a week. She was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
