An 8-year-old girl has died and her mother remains hospitalized after being hit by an SUV in Oakville on Thursday afternoon. The collision occurred on North Service Road West, just west of Dorval Drive, shortly before 4 p.m.
According to Halton police, a 47-year-old man driving an SUV veered off the road for unknown reasons and struck the 39-year-old woman and her daughter. Both victims were taken to hospital and later transferred to a trauma centre, where the child was pronounced dead.
The driver stayed at the scene and has since been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
