A bathroom fan is being blamed for a fire that devastated a Barrie home over the weekend, sending one child to the hospital.

The blaze broke out late Sunday afternoon on Hawthorne Crescent. Fire crews arrived to find flames shooting through the roof near Ferndale Drive South. Thankfully, everyone escaped the home safely, with the help of working smoke alarms. The child who was hospitalized as a precaution has since been released.

The fire is believed to have started in a ceiling fan in a second-floor bathroom, though the full extent of the damage is still unclear. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
