Emergency responders discovered a body inside a Rockland apartment after a fire over the weekend, Ontario Provincial Police said Wednesday.
The blaze began around 7 p.m. Sunday in a seniors’ residence on Laurier Street, near St. Jean Street. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell, which operates the building, said the fire was contained to a single unit, where the remains were found.
Police say neither the fire nor the death is considered suspicious, and the victim’s identity has not been released.
Four residents were temporarily displaced as a result of the incident.
