Peel Regional Police have released new information after the body of a 20-year-old Brampton woman was discovered more than 12 hours after a serious collision—inside a car that had already been towed to an impound lot.
The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 1 at Chinguacousy Road and Queen Street when a blue Audi struck a black Honda Civic, which then hit a pole and veered off the road. The Audi’s three occupants suffered minor injuries, while the Honda driver, a 31-year-old Brampton man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda was later identified as a Lyft rideshare vehicle, and the woman had booked it for a trip home after attending a social event.
At the time, emergency crews believed only one person had died. Const. Tyler Bell said the wreckage was so severely damaged that the woman’s body was not visible, and there were no signs—such as personal belongings—indicating another passenger. The vehicle was removed from the scene and taken to an impound facility for processing.
Hours later, police were alerted that the young woman was missing, and a phone tracking app placed her at the crash site. Investigators then revisited the impound yard, where they discovered her remains in the rear passenger compartment of the Honda.
Bell described the discovery as “disturbing” and said it was difficult to comprehend how the victim had gone unnoticed amid the vehicle’s extreme deformation. He emphasized that the woman had taken all the right steps to get home safely that night.
The case has been turned over to the Major Collision Bureau, which is reviewing the sequence of events alongside paramedics and fire services. Police say they have notified the woman’s family and remain in close contact as the investigation continues.
Update – The 20-year-old woman is identified to be Kourtney Khan and the 31-year-old man is Sukhdev Singh.
