A young boy has died after being struck by a Lakeshore West GO train near Long Branch GO station in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police say a 13-year-old boy was hit at approximately 2:45 p.m. near Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street. Early findings indicate he and another child were riding a motorized bike in the area before the collision.

Investigators report that the railway crossing signals were fully operational at the time, with gates lowered, lights flashing, and warning sounds active. Preliminary information suggests the boy went past the barrier before being struck.

Officials described the incident as tragic and urged extra caution, particularly during March Break when more children are outdoors.

Metrolinx said the train was carrying roughly 500 to 600 passengers, who are being transferred to another train continuing service toward Aldershot GO. Rail service has partially resumed around 6:30 p.m., with one track reopened, though delays and cancellations are expected. Shuttle buses are also operating between Long Branch and Port Credit stations.

Several nearby roads remain closed, including Fourth Street between Ogden Avenue and Alexandra Avenue, and Alexandra Avenue between Fourth Street and Lakeshore Road East.

By Wednesday night, all roads were reopened and GO Transit confirmed that regular service on the Lakeshore West line has resumed.

Update – The 13-year-old boy is identified by families and friends to be Leandro Santos.
