A 41-year-old Brampton man is facing numerous charges, including four counts of attempted murder, following a police pursuit in the Thunder Bay area.
The incident began on June 10 at approximately 10 a.m. when Ontario Provincial Police officers encountered a stopped Sprinter van on Highway 11-17 near Highway 527. After speaking with the driver, officers became suspicious and initiated a traffic stop. The driver initially complied but soon fled the scene.
Police located the vehicle again farther west on Highway 11-17, but the driver allegedly refused to stop a second time. About an hour later, officers found the van once more and allege the driver intentionally rammed three police cruisers, causing damage.
Investigators also allege the suspect attempted to set the van on fire before officers used a conducted energy weapon to take him into custody.
Several officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, while the accused was treated for minor injuries.
Gurjit Singh has been charged with four counts of attempted murder, three counts of assaulting a peace officer, two counts of fleeing from police, failing to surrender a vehicle permit, and possession of Schedule I substances, including heroin and methamphetamine.
The accused remains in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Monday.
