Provincial police say several cattle escaped onto the roadway following a tractor-trailer crash along Highway 17 near Inglis Lake Road on Sunday morning. The collision occurred between Kenora and Clearwater Bay.

Officers say a coordinated plan is underway to safely recover the livestock. There is no confirmation how many animals remain unaccounted for. In the meantime, hunters are being urged to stay away from the area to protect both the public and crews involved in the operation.

Police warned that anyone attempting to shoot the cattle could face charges under the Trespass to Property Act or the Criminal Code, including offences related to reckless discharge or careless use of a firearm, as well as theft.

Drivers who spot cattle along the highway are asked to contact the OPP.
