A Chatham man faces multiple charges following a crash involving an SUV and a mobility scooter on Tuesday afternoon. Around 12:45 p.m., police reported that the SUV, exiting a gas station parking lot on Grand Avenue, collided with a mobility scooter traveling on the sidewalk. The 70-year-old scooter operator fell, but the extent of his injuries remains unclear.
The driver fled the scene, but Chatham-Kent police were able to identify and track him down after the incident was captured on CCTV.
The 50-year-old man was arrested and charged with several offenses: failure to remain at the scene, failure to report the collision, careless driving, and driving while under suspension. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on August 20, 2025.
