A tragic trailer fire in Oshawa on Saturday afternoon has left one child dead and two others hospitalized.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 2:18 p.m. near Elgin Street West and Park Road North after reports of a vehicle fire and unknown trouble. Firefighters arrived within minutes to find a trailer fully engulfed in flames, facing intense smoke and fire conditions.

Despite a rapid response and rescue attempt, a child was found deceased inside the trailer. The identities of those involved have not been released.

A male and a female were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, two firefighters suffered minor burns while battling the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The Ontario Fire Marshal is on-site to determine how it started and what led to the fatal incident.
