A 10-year-old child was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Innisfil on Monday afternoon.
South Simcoe police responded to the collision at Webster Boulevard and Rankin Way shortly before 4:30 p.m. Investigators say the child was hit by a black Nissan Rogue as the vehicle was leaving a parking lot.
The impact left the child trapped beneath the SUV, which travelled a short distance before stopping. The child was airlifted to SickKids hospital with critical injuries.
Police provided an update Tuesday morning, saying the child’s condition had improved to stable.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. South Simcoe police’s Technical Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation, while the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers.
