A single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on Highway 144, north of Halfway Lake, resulted in weapons and drug charges, though no injuries were reported. The incident occurred around 4:55 a.m. in an unincorporated area, prompting a response from Ontario Provincial Police and local fire services.

While the two occupants of the vehicle were unhurt, a search of the vehicle uncovered brass knuckles, a conductive energy weapon, and drugs suspected to include cannabis, cocaine, and opioids.

The driver, a 60-year-old from Goderich, faces multiple charges, including two counts each of weapons and drug possession, driving dangerously, and having cannabis readily available. The 52-year-old passenger from Hamilton was also charged with two counts each of weapons and drug possession, along with one count related to a Schedule 3 substance.

Both individuals were released and are scheduled to appear in court in Sudbury on August 27. The highway was reduced to one lane with alternating traffic for over five hours during the investigation and vehicle removal.
