A crossing guard in North Bay was struck by a vehicle in the city’s south end, police reported Thursday. The guard’s injuries were not life-threatening, but officials are emphasizing the dangers of ignoring crossing guards and traffic laws.
Police remind drivers that a crossing guard’s stop sign carries the same authority as an intersection stop sign, requiring motorists to stop and wait until all pedestrians and the guard have safely crossed. Failing to comply can result in fines up to $1,000 and four demerit points.
Crossing guards play a vital role in ensuring pedestrian safety, particularly for children, police said. Concerns can be reported to the North Bay Police Service at 705-472-1234.
