A cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Niagara-on-the-Lake late Friday night, and police have arrested a driver in connection with the crash.

Niagara Regional Police said officers responded shortly before midnight to reports of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle on Concession Road 6 near Line 4 Road, close to the Niagara District Airport. When they arrived, they found the cyclist had died from their injuries, while the vehicle involved had already left the scene.

Investigators later located the suspect and the vehicle at another location in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Gavin Devries was arrested and charged with impaired driving causing death and failing to stop after an accident.

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.
