At approximately 7:54 p.m. Tuesday, a collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle occurred on the Garth Street overpass above the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, prompting a response from Hamilton emergency services.

The incident involved an 18-year-old cyclist from Hamilton, who was riding northbound on the center median. The cyclist entered the northbound traffic lanes and was struck by a vehicle, causing him to be thrown from his bike. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where his condition is reported as critical but stable.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is fully cooperating with police. Initial investigations suggest that neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the crash.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact the unit at 905-546-4753.
