A cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries Tuesday morning after colliding with the open door of a tow truck in downtown Toronto.

Toronto police and paramedics responded to the area of Bloor Street West and Church Street shortly before 8:15 a.m. following reports of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle door.

Paramedics transported the cyclist to a trauma centre with injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening.

Police say the tow truck driver remained at the scene following the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
