A 62-year-old man has died after the delivery truck he was driving crashed on Highway 401 in Scarborough Monday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police and paramedics responded to the eastbound express lanes near Neilson Road shortly after 11 a.m. Police said the truck left the roadway and struck a guide rail.

The driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

The collision prompted the closure of all eastbound express lanes between Neilson Road and Meadowvale Avenue as investigators examined the scene. The eastbound collector lanes remained open.

The express lanes were closed for several hours before reopening around 3:30 p.m. The circumstances that led to the crash have not been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
