Two women were sent to the hospital after a two-alarm house fire early Friday near Birchmount Road and Lawrence Avenue, with one victim in critical condition.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Dulverton Road around 1:30 a.m. Toronto Fire officials say firefighters pulled a woman from the basement unit with no vital signs; she was revived on-site and rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Another woman from the main floor was also taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Fire officials report that the home had working smoke alarms. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, and the Office of the Fire Marshal will be notified.
