A diesel spill on Highway 401 in Elgin County may have been a factor in a crash involving a transport truck and a mobile crane early Tuesday morning.
The collision occurred just after 6:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes between Union Road and Iona Road in Southwold Township. According to provincial police, the transport truck jackknifed while attempting to change lanes to avoid the diesel spill, leading to a collision with the crane.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours as crews responded to the incident.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, has dash-cam footage, or saw a vehicle leaking fuel in the area to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
