Local health officials are asking for help in identifying the owners of a dog involved in a biting incident at a Thornbury beach.

On Saturday night, just before 9 p.m., a three-year-old child was reportedly bitten by a large black dog while playing on the beach in the Town of Blue Mountains. The dog was accompanied by a man and a woman, both of whom were walking the dog on a leash.

Grey Bruce Public Health is working to confirm whether the dog has rabies to prevent the child from needing post-exposure treatment.

Anyone with information about the dog or its owners is asked to contact Grey Bruce Public Health at 519-376-9420 ext. 1330.
