A Drayton resident has been charged after driving past a road-closure sign at the scene of a fatal collision.

Police were investigating an earlier crash near Concession Road 8 and Wellington Road 10 outside Moorefield around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, and the roadway was blocked off. Despite the closure and visible signage, officers say a driver bypassed the barricade and continued toward the investigation area.

A 45-year-old driver from Drayton is now charged with driving on a closed highway, an offence that comes with a $110 fine and three demerit points. Police also noted that motorists who end up in a collision on a closed road risk having their insurance deny coverage.

Officers stressed that ignoring road closures puts both drivers and first responders at risk and can interfere with collision or crime-scene investigations.
