A fire broke out Wednesday east of London, engulfing a decades-old drive shed near Thamesford and sending thick smoke into the sky.
The structure, built 45 years ago by John Smulders’ father, was completely destroyed in the blaze. While the building itself was insured, its contents were not, leaving Smulders with little option but to salvage what scrap metal remains.
Thanks to the quick action of fire crews, nearby structures were spared, and propane tanks stored in a trailer behind the shed were safely cooled and removed, preventing a potential explosion. Smulders expressed gratitude that the situation didn’t escalate further, despite the personal loss tied to the family-built structure.
