A driver is facing a $110 fine after rear-ending an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser on Highway 417 in Ottawa. The collision occurred near Parkdale Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on Friday while the cruiser was stopped in heavy traffic. Fortunately, neither the officer nor the other driver was injured.
A social media photo revealed damage to the rear of the OPP cruiser. The driver of the other vehicle has been charged with following too closely, which carries a $110 fine and two demerit points.
The OPP urged drivers to exercise caution in the area, particularly with ongoing construction, and advised maintaining a safe distance, avoiding sudden lane changes, and refraining from using phones while driving.
