A man in his late 50s is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Barrie’s southeast end on Wednesday night. Emergency crews responded to Huronia Road, south of Mapleview Drive East, around 9:45 p.m., where they found an SUV that had veered off the road, hit a tree, and rolled onto its side.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. He was transported to hospital but was later pronounced dead. The road was closed between Saunders Road and Mapleview Drive East until about 1:30 a.m. as police conducted their investigation, which remains ongoing.
