In the early hours of Friday morning, a vehicle crashed into the Church Hall of St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church in Mattawa, Ontario, resulting in major structural damage. The driver was taken to hospital, and emergency crews worked throughout the day to manage the situation and clear debris.

The church acknowledged and thanked the various first responders involved, including firefighters from Mattawa and Papineau-Cameron, paramedics, mechanics, tow operators, and the Ontario Provincial Police. According to the Papineau-Cameron Fire Department, they were already in the area supporting another emergency when the crash occurred.

The incident caused the vehicle to break through the hall’s wall at 8 Main Street, but it was removed by the end of the day. The church has temporarily closed the hall for repairs, with no timeline given for reopening. Details regarding the cause of the accident and the driver’s current condition have not been disclosed.

Update – A 79-year-old man from Mattawa has been charged.
