Police are investigating a crash that occurred around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, when a vehicle drove into a grocery store located in a commercial plaza on Laurelwood Drive in Waterloo.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, the car remained lodged in the building while emergency crews evaluated the structural damage. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Residents nearby expressed shock at the scene. “We grew up here and never seen this happen before, so it’s pretty wild,” said Ian Gregg. Another resident, Justin Schreiter, described seeing multiple emergency vehicles as he passed by.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
