A dump truck driver was injured after his vehicle plunged 40 feet down an embankment and landed on its side in Ottawa’s west end Tuesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services responded to a call from paramedics around 8:30 a.m. on March Road, where the large earth-moving truck had become trapped between two sand banks. The driver was able to exit the vehicle but could not climb back up due to his injuries.

Rope Rescue teams set up a twin-tension, steep-angle rope system to safely lower rescuers down the muddy embankment. Using a litter basket and a 3:1 haul system, crews secured the driver and raised him to ground level.

Paramedics treated the man for non-life-threatening injuries and transported him to hospital in stable condition.
